[caption id="attachment_4163" align="aligncenter" width="640"] The DIPF team at JP Morgan 2022[/caption] On Wednesday 8th June 2022 part of the EduTec team together with other colleagues from the DIPF joined the annual corporate JP Morgan run in Frankfurt a run which is organised in various cities in the world including New York,  Shanghai, Sydney and Buenos Aires. The run was 5.6 km long (3.5 miles) and went through the main city of Frankfurt am Main. For the EduTec DIPF team was an occasion to promote healthy lifestyle at work and fun community activities.

At this year's JTEL summer school in Halkidiki, Greece (see previous blog post here), Joshua Weidlich presented a workshop on the topic of causal inference and causal graphs. The goal of this workshop was to equip young educational technology researchers with a toolkit for reasoning about causality and improving causal inference in their own research studies. Central to this approach are Directed Acyclic Graphs (DAGs), simple visual structures that encode variables and hypothesized causal effects. The resulting graphs can then be inspected with a few simple rules to learn whether a) causal inference is possible, b) bias is present. To address these challenges, Educational Technologies researchers at the DIPF, together with educators from the IPN in Kiel, IWM and the RUB, launched the research projects of AFLEK and ALICE. The research projects aim to design mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology teaching units and provide them with the best possible digital support. The talk was part of the symposium on "Self-Regulation in Learning in Digital Environments: From Problems to Solutions". The talk presented the endeavor of using process data within a learning environment to detect and predict off-task behavior. On 30 March 2022, Hendrik Drachsler gave an invited keynote at the LERN conference 2022 where he reported on the latest research on data-driven high informative feedback in higher education and schools. The talk focused on the experience of edutec.science research collective that has been gained in the projects DIFA, HIKOF-DL, AFLEK and ALICE. The presentation provided an overview of actionable and supportive feedback to learners as well as the various technical products that the EduTec group has developed. It, therefore, applies web technology to support meta-cognitive and collaborative learning skills with high-informative feedback methods. Collaboration is one of the four important 21st-century skills. With the pervasive use of sensors, interest on co-located collaboration (CC) has increased lately. Most related literature used the audio modality to detect indicators of collaboration (such as total speaking time and turn taking). CC takes place in physical spaces where group members share their social (i.e., non-verbal audio indicators like speaking time, gestures) and epistemic space (i.e., verbal audio indicators like the content of the conversation). Past literature has mostly focused on the social space to detect the quality of collaboration.
