The German podcast "FutureSchool" looks at the classroom of the future and which technical aids for learning could be conceivable, but are also already being developed. Luis and DIPF education expert and our colleague Dana Kube consider together where technology is superior to teachers and when, in turn, teachers are unbeatable as real people with real experiences: https://blog.bildungsserver.de/klassenzimmer-der-zukunft/ The three-part podcast "FutureSchool" was created as part of the BMBF project "enorM - Lernen von (ÜBER)MORGEN". In the project, which is part of the "Science Year 2022 - Inquired about!", pupils and researchers have exchanged ideas in numerous formats, for example about new subjects and digital learning support.

Shaping AI and the Future of Society @ Herrenhausen Conference and elf Annual Conference

Artificial Intelligence, Conference, Digitalisation
The journey from an initial idea to a finished product is generally known to be a long one. At least, this also seems to be the case with the implementation of AI systems that are intended to support various areas of everyday life. With regard to the automated understanding of language and images, AI models have made great progress in recent years and are being used in more and more applications, such as chatbots (see GUDI at Goethe University). The Educational Technologies team is therefore researching AI implementations in the education sector to support teachers and students, as well as to develop autodidactic learning environments. A few impressions: After a two-year break, scholars can finally meet again for a personal exchange at the "Gender & STEM Conference". I was able to meet so many exciting people and studies, and I think that we German universities have benefited especially from the intersectional and feminist perspectives from the USA, Canada and the Netherlands: How do transgender students experience support in Computer Science? What can universities do to keep students of colour and especially women* of colour longer in STEM programmes? Stop fixing Women* in STEM was the tenor, fix the System: I go back to Frankfurt with a lot of smart approaches on the institutional and pedagogical level and a lot of encouraging feedback on my PhD thesis on Gender in STEM/Technology. My personal highlight was meeting…

New Pub: What Indicators Can I Serve You with? An Evaluation of a Research-Driven Learning Analytics Indicator Repository

Conference, Digitalisation, Learning Analytics, Learning Design, Publication
In recent years, Learning Analytics (LA) has become a very heterogeneous research field due to the diversity in the data generated by the Learning Management Systems (LMS) as well as the researchers in a variety of disciplines, who analyze this data from a range of perspectives. In this paper, we present the evaluation of a LA tool that helps course designers, teachers, students and educational researchers to make informed decisions about the selection of learning activities and LA indicators for their course design or LA dashboard. The aim of this paper is to present Open Learning Analytics Indicator Repository (OpenLAIR) and provide a first evaluation with key stakeholders (N=41). Moreover, it presents the results of the prevalence of indicators that have been used over the past ten years in LA.…

So exciting! Today is the "International Day of Women and Girls in Science", initiated by the UN and celebrated annually worldwide on 11 February to promote girls and women in science and research, especially in STEM subjects. Today our members of the EduTec Team,Dana Kube, is having a lunch appointment online at Eindhoven EAISI, where she will exchange ideas with other European women scientists on the topic of "Women in AI"! There is now a global network of women experts in AI and robotics who are advocating for gender-just, ethical and responsible solutions for the benefit of society. Today they are talking about how we in Europe can close the gender gap in AI and robotics and increase women's participation through mentoring, hackathons, and educational initiatives. We are very much…

Take-Aways? Ihr lernt neue…
