I’m still buzzing with the energy from the Women and Girls in STEM Forum 2024! It was an inspiring day filled with conversations on AI, inclusion, and the future of STEM with girls and women from all over Europe.

The keynote speakers, Pia Ahrenkilde Hansen and Ilaria Tagliavini, emphasised the urgent need for more women to lead the next generation of scientists in Europe, highlighting the European Commission’s commitment to this mission through strategic plans for STEM education. Ilaria celebrated Girls Go Circular’s expansion to 32 countries, recognising the need for a mindset shift towards greater gender equality in STEM and the transformative role of AI in this journey.

My gratitude goes to my fellow jury member Yalda Alhabib for their thoughtful guidance. And a special thanks to Magali Minet, our moderator, for her enthusiasm and great facilitation skills.

A huge highlight was the Girls Go Circular Student Challenge! The three finalist teams impressed us all: 80 students from 24 countries joined us, along with their teachers, parents, and schools that supported them throughout the journey. There was even an online audience of +1,000 viewers who engaged with the discussions and cheered for the teams during the finale.

🔹On Her Care from Finland & Italy, using AI to address gender biases in healthcare and improve outcomes for women.
🔹SMEEQ from Estonia, with their AI-powered tool to ensure equal media coverage for female athletes.
🔹EqualED from Cyprus, an AI-driven app concept to tackle gender disparities in education.

Congratulations to On Her Care for taking home the grand prize 🏆, and to Equalife from Serbia for winning the Audience Choice Award. 👏

A big thank you to the EIT – European Institute of Innovation and Technology for hosting us — your support made all the difference in making this Forum a success.

Let’s keep the momentum going as we work together for a brighter, more gender inclusive future in STEM!
