On March 25, the “International Conference on Learning Analytics & Knowledge 2020” (LAK20), will behold as a completely online format. The conference, joined by attendees across the world, is organised from Frankfurt am Main. Responding rapidly to the spread of the Coronavirus, the team of organisers has rescheduled and completely switched to a virtual conference. The event is the worldwide most significant forum for this discipline in digital education. Learning Analytics reflects the measurement and analysis of data from technology-based learning processes that are, for instance, gained in online courses or software tutorials. Learntec keynote

From the 28th to the 30th of January the Learntec Europe’s #1 fair on digital learning took place. There Jan Schneider gave a presentation about Multimodal Learning Analytics. During the presentation, he gave a live demonstration of the Multimodal Learning applications developed by the EduTec team such as the Dancing Coach, Presentation Trainer, the Booth, LearningHub, and Visual Inspection Tool.

Trusted Learning Analytics Workshop am 14. eLearning-Netzwerktag der Goethe-Universität

Am 11. Dezember 2019 fand der 14. eLearning-Netzwerktag der Goethe-Universität auf dem Campus Westend im Casino von 10 – 18 Uhr statt. Mehr als 200 Lehrende und eLearning-Interessierte aus der Goethe-Uni sowie aus anderen Hochschulen, Schulen und Bildungseinrichtungen sahen Präsentationen von eLearning-Lehrprojekten aus den Fachbereichen sowie studentische eLearning-Initiativen. Am Vormittag stellten insgesamt 18 Projekte aus den eLearning-Förderrunden eLF und SeLF ihre Arbeiten vor. Der Nachmittag stand im Zeichen des hessischen Verbundprojektes DigLL (Digital gestütztes Lehren und Lernen in Hessen), dessen Teilprojekte an der Goethe-Universität von Vizepräsident Prof. Dr. Roger Erb vorgestellt wurden. Für das DigLL Teilprojekt - Trusted Learning Analytics moderierten Prof. Dr. Drachsler and Dr. Christoph Rensing zwei Workshops rund um ethischer Richtlinien zur Anwendung von Learning Analytics in Deutschland.

Stakeholder Attitudes Towards Digitalization in Higher Education Institutions

Abstract: We report the results of a group concept mapping study on the topic of digital transformation in German higher education. Students, teachers and administrative employees participated in the study where they first gathered statements which were then clustered and ranked according to importance and feasibility. The results show agreement between all groups that matters of culture and mentality remain the biggest factors for a successful digitalization of higher education. While we found agreement between groups on the importance of topics, those working at the institution are more pessimistic of cultural changes than students. The unification of service platforms and the development of validated didactical concepts for digital learning offerings are also seen as open challenges. This year's joint conference of the Gesellschaft für Medien in den Wissenschaft e.V. and the Fachgruppe Bildungstechnologien der Gesellschaft für Informatik e.V. from 16 to 19 September in Berlin was held under the motto "Participation in Education and Science". Hendrik Drachsler and Daniel Schiffner acted as members of the Organizing and Program Committee, the Information Center Education was represented with various other activities: In the context of the workshop "Learning Analytics" Oliver Schneider (Goethe-Univ. Policy matters: Expert recommendations for learning analytics policy

Interest in learning analytics (LA) has grown rapidly among higher education institutions (HEIs). However, the maturity levels of HEIs in terms of being ‘student data-informed’ are only at early stages. There often are barriers that prevent data from being used systematically and effectively. To assist higher education institutions to become more mature users and custodians of digital data collected from students during their online learning activities, the SHEILA framework, a policy development framework that supports systematic, sustainable and responsible adoption of LA at an institutional level, was recently built. Chinese-German Center for the Promotion of Science: Project Consulting

As part of the CDZ-funded project "Intercultural Perspectives on CI-supported Educational Technologies", Hendrik Drachsler travelled to Wuhan, China from the 25th of March 2019 to the 29th of March 2019, together with representatives of the HU Berlin. He is involved in the project as a consulting expert. The aim is to submit an application for learning analysis together with China and the DFG by the end of the year.

Von der LAK19 -> LAK20 in Frankfurt, Germany

Hendrik Drachsler und sein Team sowie Marc Rittberger waren vom 4. bis 8 März mit mehreren Beiträgen auf der neunten International Learning Analytics and Knowledge Conference 2019 (LAK 19, siehe Bild) in Tempe, USA, vertreten. Dazu gehörte zum Beispiel ein umfangreiches, gemeinsam mit Forschenden von der Open University of the Netherlands verfasstes Paper mit dem Titel Read Between the Lines: An Annotation Tool for Multimodal Data for Learning. Die LAK 20 findet übrigens nächstes Jahr vom 23. bis 27. März an der Goethe-Universität statt – mit ausgerichtet von unseren Kolleginnen und Kollegen. The 10th International Learning Analytics and Knowledge Conference will be held at University of Frankfurt, in Germany on March 23–27, 2020.
