We are very excited to welcome Víctor Alonso-Prieto, who has just joined the EduTec team as a visiting researcher from the University of Valladolid, Spain. His three-month research visit from 10.09 till 15.12.2024 promises to inspire new collaborations and bring fresh insights into the field of educational technologies. His research stay at DIPF will be supervised by Dr. Daniele Di Mitri and he will work together with members of the HyTea project as well as other researchers from the EduTec and EduCS team. We look forward to this time of research and exchange!

Here is a short introduction of our visitor Víctor:

Current PhD project

Víctor is currently pursuing a PhD in Transdisciplinary Research in Education. Víctor’s PhD project, which is co-supervised by Dr. Sara Lorena Villagrá-Sobrino and Dr. Yannis Dimitriadis, is titled “Characterizing teacher agency in the orchestration of hybrid learning situations supported by intelligent technologies.” The emphasis is placed on the co-design processes of the learning activities to understand the extent to which the affordances and features of intelligent technologies empower or constrain teachers’ practice. Additionally, the implementation of activities is evaluated to understand the potential of these technologies to support teachers’ decision-making, adaptation and classroom management. Two cases have already been completed within a multiple-case study research design involving various tools, teachers, developers and researchers in higher education settings.

Research Aim

His research aims to contribute a framework for analyzing and characterizing manifestations of agency in the orchestration of technologies that will practically assist researchers, teachers and developers in maximizing opportunities for achieving agency while minimizing potential risks to their teaching practice when implementing technologies with intelligent features for hybrid learning. As part of the on-going collaboration between the GSIC-EMIC research groups, a third case study will be conducted to reinforce the understanding of the phenomena previously described.

Short Bio

Víctor received his B.Ed. (specializing in English as a Foreign Language in Elementary Education) and M.Ed. (Research Applied to Education) from the University of Valladolid, Spain. In the meantime, he held a lectureship at an elementary school in Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA.

Other Activities

Besides is present pursuit of his PhD, he serves at the moment as a graduate teaching assistant in the Department of Pedagogy at the Faculty of Education and Social Work, where he teaches courses on information and communication technology applied to education and school organization and planning. He is a member of the interdisciplinary research group GSIC-EMIC Research Group, which has a long research experience in the research field of Technology-Enhanced Learning (TEL), such as: Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning, Learning Design, Classroom Orchestration, educational application of Augmented Reality and Virtual Worlds, and socio-semantic educational systems.

Academic and Non-Academic Interests

His research interests include the study of adaptive and intelligent learning systems to support teachers’ practice, multi-stakeholder and human-centered co-design of innovations for TEL as well as the orchestration of learning experiences for hybrid learning.

While not researching, he enjoys practicing sports, particularly mountain biking, trail running and chess, where he actively participates in amateur competitions. He also enjoys attending music festivals and reading novels.
